JAMK, with its multiple fields of study, is among the best in Finland.

It is one of the country's most popular universities of applied sciences. Its prospects are very favourable. Focal areas are visible in JAMKs activities as multidisciplinary and networked entities that are integrated with education as well as research, development and innovation activities. One focus area is bioenergy.

JAMK aim is to use educational and R&D&I methods to promote bioenergy-based business as well as to increase the use of bioenergy and growth entrepreneurship in this field.

JAMKs targets in bioenergy are to

  • increase growth entrepreneurship (equipment manufacturing, heating business, fuel production),
  • equipment manufacturing (e.g.boilers), product development and export activities,
  • develop logistics related to bio raw materials, and
  • develop fuel production methods.

In terms of content, our activities focus on granular biofuels, mainly the utilisation of wood chips and agrobiomass, and the production of heat and electrical energy.

Cooperation with VTT and the University of Jyväskylä forms the core of JAMKs cooperation network. Efficient networking is made possible by the Regional Council of Central Finland*s cluster work.

Metso is a global supplier of sustainable technology and services for mining, construction, power generation, automation, recycling and the pulp and paper industries. We have about 27,000 employees in more than 50 countries.

Power business line, as part of Metso, designs and manufactures power generation and chemical recovery systems for energy producers and the pulp and paper industry globally. Main products are power and recovery boilers, evaporators, environmental systems, and service.

Power generation solutions for multiple needs

Power business line is a forerunner in fluidized bed boilers to power plants for combustion of biomass, coal and other fuels, and it offers a wide range of boilers for different needs, from small units to giant tailor-made boilers. Over 170 bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) boilers and boiler conversions as well as over 70 circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers in operation testify to company's expertise in fluidized bed technology and in handling demanding fuels.

  • BFB technology: The company is an expert in bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) boilers for environmentally friendly power generation from biomass and recovered fuel with steam capacity ranging from 10 to 300 MW. Its HYBEX boilers using BFB technology are suitable for wide range of fuel moisture from dry wood fuel to high moisture forest residue.
  • CFB technology: Power business line is also one of the leading suppliers of circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers for coal, biomass and recovered fuel with steam capacity ranging from 50 to 600 MW. Its CYMIC boilers using CFB technology combine high-efficiency combustion of high calorific value fuels with low emissions even when burning various fuels at the same time.

No 1 in chemical recovery

Power business line is the leading chemical recovery equipment supplier in the world with its 300 recovery boilers and 400 evaporation unit deliveries. The company takes pride in being the designer and supplier of the world's largest recovery boilers. With the trend toward bigger pulp mills, recovery boiler capacities have increased in the past forty years. The capacities of Metso's RECOX boilers can be up to and above 7000 tons of dry solids per day. The boilers are designed to provide the highest possible efficiency and availability, combined with reduced emissions and low fouling and corrosion characteristics.

Jyväskylä Innovation Ltd is a development company that aims to make the Jyväskylä region an internationally thriving, technological growth centre for benefiting its diversified branches.
VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is a globally networked multitechnological contract research organization. VTT provides high-end technology solutions and innovation services. We enhance our customers' competitiveness, thereby creating prerequisites for society's sustainable development, employment, and wellbeing.
